SALISBURY, N.C. — The Anderson University (4-5, 0-3 SAC) baseball team couldn't get their bats going in the final game of their opening conference series as they dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 18 Catawba (7-3, 3-0 SAC) on Sunday, February 16.
Three Trojans were able to record hits in the contest with junior Braeden Harrison (Spartanburg, S.C.), junior Brooks Mauro (Clemson, S.C.) and sophomore Dom Bello (Orlando, Fla.) each pitching in one on the day. On the bump, the Trojans were able to strike out eight Catawba players on the day, with five of those coming from the arm of senior Walker Noland (Marietta, Ga.).
The Trojans looked poised to put a run on the board in the first inning, moving a runner to third base with two outs on the board. But, unfortunately for the Black and Gold, a strikeout ended those hopes.
Both teams went silent on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth inning when Catawba was able to scratch across the first two runs of the day to take the 2-0 lead. The Catawba Indians were further able to add three runs to their tally in the fifth and four more in the sixth to extend their advantage to 9-0. That's where the scoreline would stand the rest of the contest as the Catawba Indians wrapped up the 9-0 win.
Anderson returns to action on Tuesday, February 18 as they make the trip to Franklin Springs, Ga. to take on the Lions on Emmanuel in a non-conference matchup.
