Zocchi Records 100th Career Win in Comeback Fashion, 12-9 over Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — Sophomore Dom Bello (Orlando, Fla.) and graduate Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) combined for seven RBIs as the Anderson University (5-5) baseball team overcame an 8-1 deficit to defeat the Lions of Emmanuel University (7-5) on the road on Tuesday, February 18.

Tuesdays win also gives head Coach PJ Zocchi his 100th career victory at the helm of the Anderson baseball team program.

On top of Bello and Caccamisre's performances at the plate with 2 hits and four RBIs and a pair of hits and three RBIs, respectively, sophomore Ben Bullard (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) provided three more hits on the afternoon for the Black and Gold, scoring three times himself as well.

It was a shaky start on the mound for the Trojans, but they found solid ground late in the contest in the arm of graduate Joshua Legnard (Moncks Corner, S.C.) who went three and a third, allowing just 1 run while fanning five. Freshman Charlie Sauls (Estill, S.C.) picked up the win in the contest, taking the Trojans over the finish line with an inning and two-thirds of shutout work, sitting down four himself.

The Trojans got on board first in the top of the opening frame with a single run, but the momentum would quickly shift to the Lions side of the scoresheet as they were able to plate eight runs in the first three innings of action to take over the 8-1 advantage.

Anderson was able to chip into the scoreline in the sixth with a single run before exploding for six runs in the seventh to bring the score back level at 8-8. The two teams traded runs over their next half innings on offense to take the game into the ninth with a 9-9 scoreline.

While graduate Brayden Owen's (Easley, S.C.) would knock in what would be the winning run with a single in the top of the ninth, Bello was the one to deflate the Lions chances as he blasted a two-run bomb to extend the Trojans advantage to 12-9, where it stood after the final out.

Anderson returns to action this weekend as they welcome in Mars Hill for a three-game conference series starting on Friday, February 21.
