ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Anderson's men's golf team kicked off the spring season in Florida this week and finished 11th overall in a field of 19 teams. 

"Always great to get down to Florida to open up the spring, but it wasn't the start we were looking for," said Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Castles. "We had a few really good weeks of practice heading into the event but struggled to get that to translate to tournament golf." 

Led by seniors Simon Wright (Lancaster, S.C.) and Jamie Markwick (Bishop's Waltham, Eng.), who finished 17th and 28th respectively in the individual standings, the Trojans bettered a +13 opening round by nine strokes to finish 11th in the field at +17 after Day 1. AU then shot +10 for Round 3 to conclude the tournament remaining 11th.  

"Really proud of the way Simon and Jamie played," added Castles. "Those two have a lot of fight in them and continue to step up in a big way when we need them. Saw a lot of good things from Sam as well." 

Wright shot one-over for Round 1 followed by an even Round 2 to sit 24th at +1 to end opening day. He then shot 73 for Round 3, moving up seven spots to conclude the tournament in 17th at +2. 

Markwick improved each of the three rounds, shooting five-over, then even, then two-under. His third round was the lone under-par round shot by the Trojans this week. 

"We'll get back and go to work and prepare for Caledonia in a few weeks. Build off the positives and try to get better each week."
