CLEMSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's track & field program opened their 2025-26 indoor campaign recording four program records on a highly competitive stage at the Clemson Opener hosted by Clemson University on Friday.
"I was super impressed with how our men's team performed today." said head coach
Caleb Stephenson. "It's a super early meet and usually a rust buster but they came out today and really showed all the work they have been putting in during the off season.
In the first 30 minutes of the season opener, senior
Lambdin Hardy (Commerce, Ga.) recorded a personal best and shattered the standing indoor pole vault school record by clearing the 4.65m bar.
In the hurdle events, sophomore Amari Bennett (West Columbia, S.C.) broke the indoor 60m hurdle record with a time of 8.73 in just his first meet with the Black and Gold. Just behind was senior
Dallas Cantrell with a time of 9.41.
On the track, freshman
Harrison Knight (Greenville, S.C.) raced his collegiate debut 600m, finishing with a time of 1:21.71 for another Trojan program record. Shortly after, senior
Adam Trusty (Greer, S.C.) also surpassed the previous program record with a time of 1:23.93. The fourth and final program record was broken in the 400m with a 49.37 fifth-place finish by sophomore
Brayden Anderson (Yakima, Wash.). Just behind was sophomore
William Wright (Sumter, S.C.) finishing seventh with a time of 49.91. Wright also finished with a 60m dash personal record time of 7.12.
Freshman
Nate Powell (Johnson City, Tenn.) began his collegiate career with a third-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:32.70 while freshman
Gavin Malloy (Harrisburg, N.C.) raced his collegiate debut 3k, running a time of 8:52.70 for a ninth-place finish out of 19 on the field. Sophomore
William Cronin (Lexington, S.C.) and junior
Sean McAdams (Greenville, S.C.)
recorded their first personal bests of the season earning top-5 finishes in the 5k, finishing third and fifth with times of 14:46.90 and 14:57.83 respectively. Finishing sixth was senior
Angel Galan (Santa Marta De Tormes, Spain) who also recorded a personal best 5k with a time of 14:58.16.
"Four school records broken and plenty more to come. Happy with where we are but never satisfied, still a lot of room for improvement and we are going to continue to work hard." added Stephenson.
Four Trojans will compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University on Saturday before the holiday break. The Black and Gold bring in the new year when they travel to the Tryon Winter Classic for a two-day meet in Mill Spring, N.C. Jan. 16-17.
