ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans were unable to keep up with a Lincoln Memorial (9-1, 5-1 SAC) side that has lost just one game on the season, falling 72-62 in the Abney Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. The game marks the Trojans' third-straight loss as they move to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the South Atlantic Conference.
"You never want to lose at home. And I'll take responsibility for that," head coach
Jonathon Barbaree said. "I have to work harder in the prep to get our team ready to battle like they did in the fourth quarter, all game. That type of effort and never quit is what we will take from this and build on."
The Trojans were unable to gain a lead, going down by as many as 20 in the third quarter. They went on a 33-23 run to close, but it was not enough to make up the gap.
Anderson shot 23-70 from the field for a 32.9 shooting percentage. They struggled from deep, going 5-26. They were 11-13 at the line. They had a narrow edge on the boards, 36-35, and held the Railsplitters to just two offensive rebounds.
The Trojans were led by freshman
Ashley Hill (Covington, Ga.) with a career-high 18 points and six rebounds. She shot 9-14 from the field.
Graduate student
Ciara Harris (Alexandria, Va.) came up with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds. She went 7-8 from the free throw line.
Senior
Ashlyn Sheridan (Knoxville, Tenn.) had nine points with four rebounds while junior
Peytyn Oliver (Athens, Tenn.) added eight points.
Junior
Jayla Cal (Gilbert, Ariz.) came off the bench for six points and a team-high four assists while sophomore
Rose Gravel (Ocala, Fla.) came off the bench for five points and five rebounds.
The Trojans are back in action after the holiday break when they finish nonconference play at Georgia Southwestern State University on Dec. 31 at 1 p.m.
