NEWBERRY, S.C. -- The Trojans had a slow offensive day at Newberry College (8-3, 2-3 SAC) on Wednesday night, falling 62-49 to the Wolves. Anderson moves to 4-5 on the season and 1-3 in South Atlantic Conference play.
"Defense and taking care of the basketball must become more of a priority," head coach
Jonathon Barbaree said. "We're still a work in progress but those two things must improve."
The Trojans took an early lead through the first five minutes before the Wolves took control, but Anderson was within one by the end of the first quarter.Â
Anderson was unable to get a lead after the first minute of the second quarter, and they went into the locker room at halftime down 28-26.Â
The Wolves had their best ten minutes in the third quarter while the Trojans had their lowest scoring quarter, losing it 20-10.Â
The final quarter was close again as Newberry got a slight 14-13 advantage, but it wasn't enough to come back for the Trojans.Â
The Trojans were led by freshman
Ashley Hill (Covington, Ga.) who came up with 12 points and a career-high five field 62.5 shooting percentage.Â
Graduate student
Ciara Harris (Alexandria, Va.) had nine points and a season-high eight rebounds along with three assists.Â
Sophomore
Rose Gravel (Ocala, Fla.) also grabbed eight boards for the Trojans with six points and three assists.Â
As a team, the Trojans shot 35.2 percent from the field, 20.0 percent from three and 80.0 percent from the line. They had a slight edge on the boards, 34-33.Â
Anderson is home for the second time this season this Saturday, Dec. 20 when they host Lincoln Memorial University at 2 p.m.Â
