MOVING ON! Trojans Shutout Lions, Advance to SAC Semis

ANDERSON, S.C.--The top-seeded Trojans are moving on to the South Atlantic Conference semifinals after hosting 8-seed Mars Hill on Saturday evening and coming away with a 3-0 victory.

After winning the regular season title outright on Wednesday, the Trojans looked to continue their momentum in Saturday night's quarterfinal contest. Previously this season, Anderson traveled to Mars Hill and brought home a three-goal victory, winning 4-1 on the road. In tonight's second meeting between the two sides, AU again earned a three-goal win.

"A strong performance and a well-earned win in the quarterfinals!" said Head Men's Soccer Coach Michael Zion. "Proud of this team! Semifinals up next."

AU opened the scoring in the 34th minute with Juan Pablo Lepervanche (Caracas, Venezuela) making a pass through five MHU defenders to connect with Juan Jose Alvarez (Santiago, Chile) whose shot went off the right goalpost and into the back of the net. The goal is Alvarez's fourth of the season.

Just nine minutes later, Lepervanche recorded his second assist of the night, sending a back-heeled through-ball to Andres Giraldo (Greer, S.C.) who blasted one into the upper right corner for his first collegiate goal.

Coming into the second half with a 2-0 advantage, the Trojan attack did not let up. Earning a corner kick just two minutes into the period, Giraldo sent a perfectly placed ball to the center of the box where Charles Bolduc (Quebec, Canada) headed it home. The goal is also Bolduc's first of his Black and Gold career.

Anderson held Mars Hill to just five shots on the night, tying the lowest by an AU opponent this season—the Lions only tallied five shots in the teams' first meeting last month. Of the five shots, three came on frame, adding to Franco Antoniolli's (Cardoba, Argentina) save-tally on the season.

The Trojans will now travel to Matthews, N.C. for the remainder of their SAC Championships run. Anderson will face 4-seed Lenoir-Rhyne in the first of two men's semifinals matchups next Friday (Nov. 8) at the Sportsplex at Matthews. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 PM.
