ANDERSON, S.C. – The Trojans hit at a new season-high clip of .423 as they cruised to their second sweep of the season over Coker University (8-16, 4-11 SAC) to move to 18-5 overall and 13-2 in the SAC.
"I hope we can always appreciate what it takes to win," head coach Todd Hay said. "Our practices have been very good as of late and we are seeing it carry over into the matches. Yes, there are still areas we need to improve, but I like the effort and positive attitudes we are showing by right now."
Anderson came up with 52 kills in the win while the setters dished out an impressive 45 assists. The defense came up with 41 digs and three blocks and held the Cobras to a .129 hitting percentage.
Junior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) tied her season-high of 16 kills with a career-high .519 hitting percentage on just two errors.
Junior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) added 13 kills on a .524 clip with three digs and three blocks.
Sophomore Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) hit at a whopping .875 with seven kills and no errors.
The setters had impressive nights as well, with junior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) dishing out 30 assists in two sets while sophomore Mia Bennett (Boiling Springs, S.C.) came up with 10 assists in the third set.
Freshman Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led the defense with 14 digs.
The Trojans came out hot in set one, going on a 6-1 run to start. They rode it out to an efficient 25-14 win, swinging at a .378 hitting percentage. Nieporte dished out a whopping 17 assists in the first set. Reeves was hitting .667 with six kills.
Anderson got a lead at 5-4 in set two on a monster block from Campbell and didn't drop it for the whole set. Nieporte added another 13 assists while Campbell came up with five kills for a total of nine with just one error.
New faces saw the court in set three as the Trojans cruised to a 25-16 win.
The Trojans head out for their last road contest of the season this Friday when they face Catawba College at 6 p.m. Anderson earned a 3-1 win over Catawba just last week.
