SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Trojans got gritty on Friday night in a five-set win over Catawba College (8-13, 5-11 SAC) by scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 18-25 and 15-10. This was Anderson's fourth five set game of the season and second five set win. It was the first time they have been pushed to five sets in SAC play.
Anderson stays securely at second place in the SAC with an overall record of 19-5 and a SAC record of 14-2. They are riding a six-game win streak as they head into the final week of the regular season.
The Trojans put up 16.0 total blocks in the win, tying for fourth-most in program history. Other statistics were fairly even on both sides, though the Trojans struggled defensively with 56 digs to Catawba's 72. Anderson came up with 56 kills and nine aces with a .201 clip.
Sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) led the way with 15 kills for the Trojans on a .294 hitting percentage. She added four blocks.
Sophomore
Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) had an outstanding night with a career-high in kills and blocks. She came up with 12 kills and a whopping nine blocks.
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) also hit in double digits with 11 kills and just one error with seven blocks. She added three service aces.
Junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) had 10 kills and two blocks.
The defense was led by freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) with 18 digs and one ace.
Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) ran her offense with 44 assists, 10 digs and three blocks.
The Trojans will look to carry this momentum into the final week of the regular season when they host Mars Hill on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. and Wingate on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
