TAMPA, FLA. – Anderson University men's basketball advances to 4-0 on the season after a 93-67 victory over the University of Tampa Spartans Thursday evening.
"So proud of our effort tonight. You could tell from the start that this game would come down to which team figures out how to get stops." said head coach
Jimmie Williams.
The Black and Gold had a slow start to the first half, with Anderson and Tampa each tallying 20 points in the paint. The Spartans held the edge with 15 total rebounds and a 63% field goal percentage from deep, while the Trojans lead the half with a free throw percentage of 90 opposed to Tampa's 67.
Anderson came out of the half taking control over the court, shooting 50% from deep while also going 4-for-5 on free throws and going 10-for-14 when shooting from behind the arch. The Trojans showed their dominance during a 14-1 run over four minutes. Freshman
Rashawn Inglemon (Sacramento, Calif.) dominated the court, surpassing 30 points on the match and tallying four assists.
"Thankfully, I got to coach a team that has a ton of heart and believes in each other. To hold a great team like Tampa to 22 points in the second is something I doubt will happen to them again all year." added Williams.
Six Trojans tallied double figures on the game, resulting in the 93-67 victory. Junior
Osmar Garcia-Araujo (Sugar Hill, Ga.) put up 29 points while leading the team with 11 rebounds while going 7-for-8 on free throws. Senior Malachai Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) tallied 28 points, recording two assists and four rebounds. Junior AJ Wright-Jr. also aided the team to victory on offense recording 28 points, sophomore Caleb MacAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) and junior
Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) both surpassed 20 points with 24 and 22 respectively.
"This trip was so much fun. Obviously getting two wins is nice, but these guys are so much fun to be around. I love this team."
The Black and Gold round out their non-conference matchups when they host Bob Jones University on Monday, Nov. 24 before beginning SAC play.
