ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans continued their midseason tear with a sweep over Newberry College on Tuesday night by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17. The win is the Anderson's sixth-straight win and fourth-straight sweep as they stay unbeaten at home and improve to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the SAC.
"It was good to see our offense put up good numbers even though our serving and passing were not at the level we've seen as of late," head coach
Todd Hay said. "We will work on that over the next two days and get things ironed out. Ellie set a good match and helped make up our deficit in other areas. Overall, we had more positives than negatives and I like how we are trending at this time in the season. Thank you to all who came out tonight. What a good crowd."
As a team, the Trojans hit a season-high .400 clip with a season-low 11 hitting errors. They had seven total blocks and 44 digs.Â
Sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) highlighted the Trojan offense with her sixth-straight game of at least 12 kills. She had a career-high .600 hitting percentage with 12 kills and zero errors. She added three blocks.
Sophomore
Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) came up with a career-high nine kills on a .400 clip. She came up with three blocks of her own.
Junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) came up with nine kills of her own on a .375 hitting percentage.
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) dropped seven kills with no errors along with two blocks. Freshman
Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) followed suit with seven kills and just one error along with five digs and one ace.
Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) dished out 36 assists and nine digs with two kills.Â
Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.), the reigning SAC Defensive Player of the Week, led the defense with 11 digs and three assists.
The first set saw no lead changes or tied scores as the Trojans cruised to a 25-17 win. The Wolves never got closer than two at 15-13, despite a 4-0 Newberry run at set point.Â
The Trojans opened set two on an 11-4 scoring run to force a Wolves timeout. Newberry answered with a 15-4 run of their own to take a 19-18 lead and make Anderson work for the set win. A kill from setter Nieporte followed by an ace by Hedlund put the Trojans back in a better spot to finish it out 25-20.
Anderson opened the third set on another scoring run of 6-1 and remained in control for the entire set to secure the sweep.
The Trojans will look to keep the win streak alive on Friday, Oct. 10 when they take on Lincoln Memorial University at 6 p.m.
