HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Trojans are on a 17-set winning streak after their fifth-straight sweep and seventh-straight win at Lincoln Memorial University (7-11, 3-6 SAC) by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-23. Anderson moves to 10-4 overall with the win and 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference where they currently sit at second place.
"It's great to win on the road but we have to learn how to finish out sets when we have control," head coach
Todd Hay said. "We missed four of our five missed serves late in set three when we needed to play our best. This is an area of concern that is hopefully just a one off occurrence. Fortunately, our overall defense held LMU at bay and we were able to come away with the win. I believe this will be a good wake up call for us. You have to earn your victories night in and night out if you want to be a champion."
This was a tighter battle than the Trojans have faces lately with 21 tie scores and 13 lead changes. The game opened with the Railsplitters going on a 7-3 run and it took the Trojans until 16-15 to regain a lead. They went on a 12-4 run to close the set and get the win.Â
The Railsplitters took an early win in set two as well. In set three the Trojans had things under control until late despite having a 21-16 lead. Anderson was able to step up when it counts to get the 25-23 win without going to extra points.Â
Junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) led the Trojan offense tying her season-high of 13 kills with a .323 clip and four digs.
Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a double-double with 29 sets, 14 digs, three service aces and two solo blocks.
Freshman
Kaleigh Garren (Anderson, S.C.)Â had a career-high 15 digs to lead the Trojan defense. Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) followed up with 14 digs. As a team, the Trojans had 65 digs to the Railsplitters' 50.
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) had nine kills and one solo block while sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) came up with eight kills and one block.
The Trojans will look to keep the momentum rolling on Tuesday, Oct. 14 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne at 7 p.m. for the two teams' second meeting this season. The Bears took the win earlier this season 3-0.Â
