WINGATE, N.C. -- The Trojans battled No. 20 Wingate (19-1, 12-0 SAC) on Tuesday night through four sets, falling by scores of 12-25, 26-24, 21-25 and 20-25. Anderson's ten game win streak was snapped with the loss as they move to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bulldogs remain at the top of the conference standings while the Trojans sit just behind them in second place.
"This was a great test for us both physically and mentally," head coach
Todd Hay said. "We showed a lot of fight when down and coming out of our timeouts. The offense was effective when we were in system with our first contact. Unfortunately, our passing had a tough night and that is the name of game in our sport. We will learn from this and get better going forward."
The Trojan offense put up 60 kills on a .198 clip. The defense struggled on serve receive, allowing the Bulldogs to get ten aces. Both teams were struggling to get blocks, with the Trojans notching four and the Bulldogs getting five.
Junior
Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) had her best offensive night of the season with 16 kills and just two errors. She added two solo blocks and two digs.
Sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) added another 16 kills with three digs.
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) had 11 kills and tied her season-high seven digs.
Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) picked up 17 digs while senior
Katy Smith (Fleming Island, Fla.) added 12.
Junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) dished out 50 assists with 13 digs.
The Trojans are back home this weekend when they host Emory & Henry University on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
