ANDERSON, S.C. — The Anderson University (5-3, 3-3 SAC) football team fought hard in the first half but ultimately fell 28–6 to Carson-Newman (4-2, 3-2 SAC), who used a 21-0 advantage in the second half on Saturday afternoon at Melvin & Dollie Younts Stadium to shore up their win.
Quarterback Tyler Wesley led the Trojans with 190 total yards, rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown while adding 111 passing yards. Wesley's 15-yard scoring run in the second quarter capped a nine-play, 78-yard drive that gave Anderson a 6–0 lead.
Zay Williams caught three passes for 49 yards, including a 22-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Jonathan Bowden added two receptions for 33 yards, while Wesley Beckett, Cameran Loyd, and Jalon Warthen-Carr each recorded multiple catches. On the ground, Bryson James rushed for 46 yards on 10 carries, and Warthen-Carr added 69 kickoff return yards.
Defensively, Josiah Jeffery totaled nine tackles to lead Anderson, while Chase Brightharp and Daniel Williams each finished with eight stops. Carter Wit and Alex Ledford added seven tackles apiece, and Scotty Miley contributed a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Jerrod Woods forced one fumble during the second quarter to end a Carson-Newman drive.
Anderson recorded 270 yards of total offense, including 159 rushing yards on 31 attempts. The Trojans held Carson-Newman to 133 passing yards and forced one turnover.
Anderson will return to action next weekend as Wingate comes to town for a 2:00 p.m. kick-off at Spero Financial Field.
