ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (5-1-1, 3-0 SAC) remain undefeated in conference play after posting a clean sheet against conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne (5-2-1, 3-1 SAC) at home on Wednesday night.
"Very proud of the girls for following the game plan, finishing chances, and putting forth an incredible defensive effort." said head coach
Sarah Jacobs.
Anderson capitalized on a set piece in the sixth minute as sophomore
Ansley Douty (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) delivered a corner that was assisted by senior
Kylie Swanson (Grapevine, Texas) before junior
Whitley Anderson (Eatonton, Ga.) netted the lone goal.
Despite Lenoir-Rhyne's offensive pressure with 20 shots, including 11 on goal, Anderson's strong defense silenced the Bears. R-Sophomore
Aliyah Morgan (Fort Myers, Fla.) tallied 11 saves on the game, securing her fourth career shutout.
The Black and Gold recorded seven shots-three coming on goal-and three corners. The Trojans led the match with 10 fouls on the Bears.
"They showed an incredible amount of grit and belief tonight. We will look to do it again on Saturday."
The Trojans hit the road for another conference matchup when Catawba hosts Anderson on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
