ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans opened their season on Thursday night, picking up a hard fought 1-1 result against the No. 11 Barry Buccaneers.
The Bucs opened the game with an unassisted goal in the first minute of action. The Trojans quickly bounced back, however, with Juan Pablo Lepervanche (Caracas, Venezuela) blasting a deflected ball into the back of the net for a fifth-minute equalizer.
Outshooting the Bucs 10 to 9, the Trojans tallied five shots on goal to Barry's four. The sides split an even six corner kicks apiece, while the Black and Gold committed 13 fouls, conceding 11.
A last chance penalty nearly lifted the Trojans to victory when the Bucs conceded an 87th-minute foul in the box, but Barry's Rafael Furlani stepped up to the plate, saving Anderson's PK to keep the game level.
The series between the Trojans and Buccaneers now sits at 1-1-1.
The Trojan's home stretch continues next week as they take on former AU head coach Rob Miller's squad on Wednesday (Sept. 11) for the first-ever matchup between Anderson and Converse.
