Trojans Come Up Short in Five Sets Against Undefeated Lenoir-Rhyne

ANDERSON, SC – The Trojans came just short of a five-set upset over RV Lenoir-Rhyne University who remains undefeated and moves to 13-0. Anderson is now 5-6 and 2-2 in the South Atlantic Conference after the 3-2 loss, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12, 10-15.

This was just the second time this season the Bears had been pushed to five sets and the Trojans showed their grittiness after going down 0-2 to start.

"Once again we rode the roller coaster up, down and around," head coach Todd Hay said. "We can clearly see how good we can be if we take care of first contacts on serves and passing, but again tonight we had too many missed serves and passing was below our season average. But like we have said all along, this team will be peaking later rather than earlier and we have a lot of volleyball left on the season. Thank you to our great Trojan Army for coming out tonight."

The Trojan offense was much more efficient in the third and fourth set, limiting their errors to just nine compared to 18 in the first two sets. The defensive struggles continued, however, and the Bears took advantage.

Sophomore Ava Reeves had a massive night with a career-high 24 kills on a .288 hitting percentage. She added 14 digs and two blocks.

Sophomore Ellie Nieporte had a career-high 52 assists and added 10 digs.

Freshman Mia Elder brought a spark for the Trojans with a career-high nine kills, hitting .300.

Senior Brantley Chipley added 11 kills and four blocks.

The Trojans continue to face tough conference opponents as they head to preseason favorite Wingate University this Friday, Sept. 27th at 7 p.m.
