ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University women's soccer (4-1, 1-1 SAC) defeated South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill (1-1-1, 0-1-1 SAC), 4-2, to earn its opening SAC home match on Friday night at Spero Financial Field.

Sarah Jacobs. "It was great to score some quality goals and earn a solid win. The team has been working hard this week and it was great to reward many players with opportunities on the field tonight."
Junior Cameron Woods struck twice in the opening half to lead the charge on a four goal evening by the Trojans. Woods first goal came in the ninth minute on an assist by junior Carley Keuffer scoring again in the 38
th minute on a double assist by sophomore
Kaitlyn Gregory and Keuffer.
Anderson continued to find the back of the net scoring a third goal just inside the 42
nd minute. Junior
Catherine Nardella used a well-struck corner kick from Gregory to score from short distance to give the Black and Gold a, 3-0, lead heading into the half. Nardella has scored a goal in each of AU's five matches.
The Trojans struck quickly in the second half on a perfectly struck ball by graduate
Leanna Guion that flew over the head of the Lions keeper. Guion's goal gave AU a convincing, 4-0, advantage.
Mars Hill continued to put up a fight cutting the lead in half on goals in the 71
st minute and the 85
th minute.
For the match, AU out shot Mars Hill 15 – 8 with each taking five corner kicks apiece.
AU's senior Macey McDufford logged almost 72 minutes between the posts while being credited with one save.
Anderson returns to action on Wednesday when it steps out of conference play to take on Lander. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
