MCCORMICK, S.C. -- Anderson's men's golf improved each round of the Fall Bearcat Invitational in McCormick, S.C., finishing Day 2 of the tournament shooting even on the day to land 10th in the field. Of the nine teams who scored ahead of the Trojans, all but one is ranked in the Top 25 nationally. 

"Really pleased with how we started the season," said Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Castles. "Just proud of this group as a whole. Everyone contributed this week. 10th may not look great to most, but it was a field loaded with Top-25 teams in the country." 

Opening the tournament shooting eight over as a team, the Trojans improved by five strokes for a +3 round two, before bettering their score even more to notch an even round to conclude the tournament. 

"We do need to clean things up a bit," said Castles. "We didn't do our best at finishing each golf round. Gave away a lot of shots there but overall super encouraged with what we did." 

Senior Simon Wright (Lancaster, S.C.) led the charge for the Black and Gold on Tuesday, carding a 68(-4) third round with birdies on two Par 4s and eagles on two Par 5s. Wright rounded out the competition at 72-74-68(-2), tying for 22nd on the board. 

"Couldn't be more proud of Simon. He was really solid this week, and his final round of 68 was huge for us. He stepped up when we needed him most." 

Sophomore Sam McMillan (Mount Pleasant, S.C) shot a two-over third round for a total score of 73-70-74(+1) and 39th-place finish. 

"Sam was also very steady this week and played three really solid rounds of golf. Also, big shoutout to Reece Coleman. He was huge this week and the guys loved having him on the golf course coaching. Looking forward to more of that! Go Trojans!" 

The Trojans look ahead to the Mizuno Intercollegiate in two weeks (Sept. 23-24) hosted by North Georgia at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
