FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Trojans rounded out the 2024 Conference Crossover with a 79-52 win over Erskine College to move to 2-0.
"Our team was ready to go today," head coach Jimmie Williams said. "Proud of how we started. Sometimes it can be a challenge playing back to back days like that. We were ready. I knew at shootaround today that we were hungry and focused. We got extended minutes from our bench today which will pay off going forward. I love the way our starters supported our bench in the second half. We can't wait to play Thursday in our home opener in Abney! I love this team."
The Trojans came out hot, roaring to a 13-2 start in the first six minutes. The Flying Fleet were never able to gain a lead. Ten Trojans saw ten or more minutes and all but one got points on the board. The team came up with a total of 54 rebounds, more than any game in the 2023-24 season.
Malachi Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) led the offense with 14 points, shooting 5-9 from the field and 4-8 from deep. He added three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) had 12 points in 15 minutes, shooting 5-6 from the field with four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) ran the offense in his 21 minutes of play well with six points, a team-high five assists, two rebounds and three steals.
Williams said, "AJ had a great weekend for us. He's always been a dynamic point guard on both ends of the ball but he's really coming into his own in the leadership column. I heard him a lot today, and our guys follow his leadership for sure. Malachi Reeves played great today too. He was electric off the bench today. Austin Webb was exactly what our fans have come accustomed to. Steady. Sturdy. Stable. Always in the right place, and tough on defense."
Jacksen Greco (Canton, Ga.) had a solid performance with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists in just 17 minutes.
Sentinel Moore (Oklahoma City, Okl.) had a team-high eight rebounds, adding six points and two assists.
The Trojans turn their attention to their home opener on Thursday, Nov. 14th at 7 p.m. when they host Lees-McRae College.
