ANDERSON, S.C.--Anderson men's soccer rounded out the regular season on a rainy Wednesday evening, picking up their fourth-straight victory with a 3-0 win over Newberry.
In the regular season finale, Anderson's offense pressed Newberry from the start—the Trojans outshot the Wolves 10-2 in the opening half. Newberry's defense held steady amidst the wet conditions, however, and the match remained scoreless going into halftime.
Following the break, Anderson was finally able to crack the Wolves back line, as Diego Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia) netted his eighth goal of the season, connecting his head with a service from Pol Elias (Barcelona, Spain). The Trojans kept the momentum going and were awarded and penalty when Jamie Round (Hartford, England)'s run was cut short via a tackle in the box from Newberry's keeper. Marc Vila (Vilassar de Mar, Spain) stepped up and buried it from the spot, doubling the Trojan lead.
A minute later, a service from Steven Udy (Clover, S.C.) found an unmarked Emmanuel Arkoh (Barcelona, Spain) on the back post, who blasted the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Both Vila and Arkoh's goals marked their second of the season. The match ended as a 3-0 Trojan victory.
With the win, the Trojans conclude the season with 21 points, going 7-4 in league play, and landing tied-for-third with Mars Hill in the South Atlantic Conference standings. Anderson defeated the Lions 2-1 back in September, so the Black and Gold claim the tie-break and earn the 3-seed in the conference tournament.
As the 3-seed, the Trojans will host 6-seed Lenoir-Rhyne this weekend. The Trojans fell 2-1 at LR earlier in the season. Match details will be posted AUTrojans.com.
