GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Trojans got back in the win column on Tuesday night with an 81-73 win over Limestone University. They move to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
"Very proud of our effort and execution tonight," head coach
Jimmie Williams said. "I challenged our guys this week to start better and to take care of the ball. We got away from who we are earlier in the week and responded well with a good week of practice and it showed tonight. Limestone is a really good shooting team and runs a lot of tough actions to guard. I have a ton of respect for Coach Perry and what he does. Anytime you can win on the road and in our league you're excited, but I thought this was as good as we have played beginning to end. Having such balanced scoring and unselfish play on both ends of the floors without a doubt what led to the victory."
The two teams were evenly matched on defense but the Trojans stepped up on offense where it mattered, shooting 51.8 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from deep and 77.8 percent from the line.Â
The Trojans went into the locker room up 39-36, but the Saints went on an 8-1 run to open the second half. Anderson was able to regain control six minutes into the half, taking a 50-49 lead that they didn't lose.Â
Anderson's scoring was well-rounded with four starters scoring in double digits and all but two Trojans getting on the board.Â
Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) and
Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) led the scoring with 17 points each. Webb came up with six boards, three assists and two steals while Middleton shot 66.7 percent with four rebounds.Â
AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) dropped a career-high 16 points on 60.0 percent field goal shooting. He added three rebounds, two assists and two steals.Â
Sam Perez (Apex, N.C.) had 10 points on 66.7 percent shooting along with three assists and two steals.
Freshman
Caleb McAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) got his first career start and came up with a career-high eight points.Â
Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) came off the bench for nine points while
Sentinel Moore (Oklahoma City, Okl.) rounded out the scoring with four points and six rebounds.Â
"Thanksgiving dinner is going to taste a lot better on Thursday," Williams said. "I'm so thankful for this team and this university. I love this team."
The Trojans are back home after the holiday when they host Carson-Newman University on Saturday, Nov. 30th at 4:00 p.m.Â
