Trojans Get Gritty Win Over Catawba In Conference Opener

ANDERSON, S.C. -- For the first time in eight games, the Trojans got the win against Catawba College to open conference play. Anderson remains undefeated with a 4-0 record as the season picks up.

"Proud of the way our guys stayed together tonight," head coach Jimmie Williams said. "Catawba is the best defensive team we've played. In the first half everything came hard. We turned it over way too much and were forced to take shots well below our typical shot quality. Thankfully in the second half we settled into an offensive rhythm and really turned up our defense. So many bright points for us that led to us coming out on top. Cole 9/9 from the field and made big plays down the stretch. Caleb and Webb hit big shots, and AJ led us with seven boards and ten assists. Proud of all our guys. We are going to enjoy this and get back to work. I love this team."

Anderson shot 57.8 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from deep and 62.1 percent from the line. They won the boards 38-32.

The first half saw 12 lead changes with the Trojans unable to get a lead of more than five points. The Catawba Indians went into the locker room up 37-29 shooting 13-33 from the field in the first half while the Trojans shot a more efficient 10-21.

The Trojans came out of the locker room with a new sense of intensity, winning the second half 47-34. Anderson opened the second half scoring on a 14-7 scoring run to tie it at 45. Once they regained the lead four minutes into the second half they never lost it.

Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) dropped a season-high 23 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting from the field. His one missed shot of the night was at the free throw line. Middleton had a team-high seven rebounds and two assists

Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) led the Trojans again with 24 points, shooting 8-13 from the field and 3-8 from three. He added three rebounds and two assists.

AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) came up with a team-high ten assists and seven rebounds along with nine points.

Caleb McAbee (Saint Johns, Fla.) came off the bench for seven points and four rebounds.

Next up, the Trojans head to Mars Hill University for a 4 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Nov. 23rd.
