ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans hosted North Georgia on Wednesday night for a midweek non-conference matchup, falling short of the Nighthawks by a score of 2-1.
The contest was well-matched from the start with both sides recording two shots each in the first eight minutes of play, but UNG ultimately struck first following an AU foul in the goal box. The Nighthawks capitalized on the opportunity, scoring one from the spot in the 17th minute.
Though Anderson outshot North Georgia 6-2 during the remaining 25 minutes of the half, the Nighthawks knocked in a second goal with less than a minute left in the period. North Georgia took a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
The Trojan offense returned to the pitch eager to get on the board, earning three corner kicks in as many minutes to open the second half. AU's efforts were rewarded when junior Caleb McDowall (Warwick, Bermuda) found his first goal of the season to cut the Nighthawk lead in half at minute 67.
Anderson's momentum ultimately came up short, however, and the Nighthawks outlasted the Trojans for a 2-1 victory.
The Black and Gold look toward Saturday when they travel to face No. 9 Wingate. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
