Trojans Hold Off Saints for Second Straight Five Set Win

GAFFNEY, SC -- The Trojans began their three-game week with a big five set win over Limestone University, avenging their loss to the Saints just a few weeks ago. Anderson is now 7-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The Trojans were in full control of the game through the first two sets, hitting .261 in the first set and .361 in the second. The roles were reversed for the next two sets before the Trojans regained control in time to secure the win. It was Anderson's second straight five set win and third of the season.

"Winning on the road in conference is always a challenge and we knew it was going to be a tough match," head coach Todd Hay said. "Fortunately, we were able to make a few key adjustments to our lineup and defense late in set four and at the start of set five which paid off considerably. Really proud of how well the team responded to those changes and performed down the stretch."

The Trojan defense was locked in with a season-high 116 digs on the night. Junior Katy Smith led the way with a career-high 35 digs. Senior Hannah Neff and grad student Libby Nieporte both had season-highs, with 20 digs and 18 digs respectively.

Sophomore Ava Reeves led the way on offense once again with 18 kills, 12 digs and one ace. Reeves is ranked second in the South Atlantic Conference for kills per set, averaging 3.31 so far this season.

Emily Campbell and Brantley Chipley tacked on 12 kills each while Mia Elder added 10.

Sophomore Ellie Nieporte was just a few assists shy of her career-high with 55. She added three kills and 12 digs. Nieporte is ranked third in the SAC for assists per set with 9.67.

The Trojans begin a four-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 11th when they host UVA Wise at 7 p.m.
