ANDERSON, SC -- The Trojan volleyball team got their eighth win of the season and third straight on Friday with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18) win over UVA Wise to move to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.
The Trojans came up with their highest team hitting percentage of the season, swinging at .325 despite a third set percentage of .185. They had just 17 errors on the day.
"I was really pleased with our offensive production, especially sets 1 and 4," head coach
Todd Hay said. "Our pin hitters were performing at a very high level and that is what we have been working on a lot this week. Unfortunately, we had a lapse in set 3 and could never find our footing. We struggled in serve receive and defense and I felt like we got quiet. Situations like that call for leadership on the court and right now we are trying to find that. Tomorrow will be another good conference test and we need to expect a battle."
Senior
Brantley Chipley had 10 kills on a .348 hitting percentage and added three blocks. Sophomore
Emily Campbell was right there with her, with nine kills on a .444 hitting percentage. She added three blocks of her own and two aces.
Sophomore
Ava Reeves had 13 kills and 11 digs.
Junior
Katy Smith led the defense with 14 digs and added three aces while
Ellie Nieporte dished out 48 assists.Â
The Trojans have a quick turnaround as they play their second of four straight home games tomorrow, Oct. 12th at 4 p.m. against Mars Hill University.
