ANDERSON, SC – The Trojans snagged their eighth-straight win, taking down Catawba College in straight sets on Tuesday night by scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-17. The Trojans are now 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the South Atlantic Conference where they sit in fourth place.
The defense carried the Trojans to the win, as the team put up nine total blocks, the most in any 3-set game and the third highest number this season.
Brantley Chipley led the offense with 10 kills and no errors, a .526 hitting percentage. She tacked on three blocks.
Emily Campbell had nine kills and a team-high five blocks. Katy Smith added a team-high 14 digs.
SAC Offensive Player of the Week Ellie Nieporte had 35 assists and four blocks.
The Trojans got off to a slow start but then went on a tear with a 18-5 run to secure the first set win. They came up with four blocks in the first set alone.
The Catawba Indians fought to get back in it but the Trojans held them off taking the second set 25-17.
Service errors plagued both sides in set three and the Catawba Indians tied it up at 15. The Trojans pulled away and never let Catawba take the lead.
The Trojans hit the road this weekend to take on Emory & Henry for the first time this season.
