ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--In one of the biggest Division II meets of the regular season, Anderson men's cross country rounded out the Lewis Crossover Invitational with an 11th-place team finish on Saturday morning. The entire squad posted season best-times, with six Trojans boasting personal records.
"Our guys battled today against some of the best teams in the NCAA," said Head Cross Country Coach Kevin Eagle. "Obviously we would have liked to finish higher than 11th, but we were shorthanded as we raced without one of our top guys. The team results would have looked drastically different with him in the mix but getting everyone to the start line healthy and not sick is half the battle."
Finishing first for the Trojans and 11th in the field, was sophomore Elliot Dotson (Greenville, S.C.), while Spain Vaughan (Greer, S.C.) ran for 24:32 to finish 28th on the scoreboard and William Cronin (Lexington, S.C.) recorded his best collegiate race at 24:54 for a 60th-place finish.
Rounding out the scoring for the Black and Gold was Joey Tindale (Rock Hill, S.C.), who scored a personal-best 25:16 race, and David Williams (Irmo, S.C.) also with a PR at 25:25.
"For the ones who did race, we walk away from the meet with several personal bests and even more personal bests," added Eagle. "We know we have work to do to be considered a top team in the NCAA, but we have 4-6 weeks to get our guys there."
Jack Barrett (Greenville, S.C.), Sean McAdams (Greenville, S.C.) and Eddie Wedgewood (Easley, S.C.) also each secured personal-bests in the contest with times of 25.42, 25:46.1 and 25:46.9 respectively.
The Trojans are back on the road next week, competing at the Upstate Invite in Spartanburg on Saturday.
