Men's Soccer Bounces Back With 1-0 Win Over Queens

Box Score

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team bounced back with a 1-0 victory over the Queens Royals on Wednesday (Sept. 29) at Spero Financial Field.

Entering the match, the Trojans and Royals both had a 3-2-1 record on the season. Anderson was looking to bounce back following a 4-1 defeat to Lenoir-Rhyne over the weekend, while Queens defeated Mars Hill 2-0.

It was a scoreless, yet entertaining first half of play as the two teams combined for 13 shot attempts, with goalkeepers Gal Elyashiv and Nicolai Anderson each coming up with a pair of saves.

Both teams were still trying to find the back of the net late into the second half. In the 85th minute, Santiago Arce Alvarez was able to escape the Queens defense on the right side of the field, drawing contact in the box and forcing a penalty kick for the Trojans. Agustin Ortiz placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net to give Anderson the 1-0 win.

"It is always hard to win after a loss, but we found a way to do it tonight," said coach Michael Zion. "I thought everyone showed up and played well. We knew we were going to have to fight for those points and we did just that."

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 2) when they play host to Tusculum at 7:30 PM. Video and live stats will be available at www.autrojans.com.
