Munoz Scores Twice in 30 Seconds to Lift Trojans over Railsplitters, 3-2

HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Anderson University (9-2-4, 5-2-3) men's soccer team defeated Lincoln Memorial (6-5-3, 4-4-1) 3-2 on Saturday, with Luis Munoz scoring in the 85th and 86th minutes as the Trojans erased a late deficit and moved in front.

The Black and Gold dealt with four Lincoln Memorial shots in the opening 14 minutes before generating their first look when Julian Caro shot high in the 13th minute, followed by a Jonas Zethofer attempt that went left in the 17th. Lincoln Memorial's Filipe Ribeiro converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute for the only scoring play of the first half.

After the penalty, Anderson goalkeeper Asher Risell was tested again, making saves in the 24th minute as Lincoln Memorial added multiple corners. AU later came through a stretch from the 28th to 38th minutes that included two more opponent shots and two corners without conceding. Charles Bolduc put the Trojans' only recorded shot on frame in the 34th minute, forcing Daniel Benedek Miklosi into a save, before the half closed with fouls on both teams and a yellow card to Munoz as Lincoln Memorial carried the 1-0 edge into halftime.

In the second half, the Trojans answered a Lincoln Memorial push when Caro scored off Zethofer's assist in the 64th minute, making it 1-1 after the home side had recorded four shots and a corner in the preceding minutes. Lincoln Memorial generated another stretch of pressure after that, but Risell saved shots by Lasse Kidde Amstrup and Enrique Martin as AU kept the match tied through a sequence that included five Lincoln Memorial shots and a corner from the 74th to 80th minutes.

Ribeiro put Lincoln Memorial in front 2-1 in the 83rd minute, but Munoz converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute to bring the Black and Gold level at 2-2 and scored again in the 86th to put AU ahead 3-2. The Black and Gold held on through the final whistle for the win.

Munoz scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and led AU with four shots. Caro added a goal on two shots, putting one on frame. Zethofer recorded an assist and added one shot. Risell made four saves while playing all 90 minutes.

The Trojans have now secured hosting duties in the quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference tournament. With the rest of the conference still with one game remaining on the schedule, the Trojans will have to wait to find out their first-round opponent.
