Box Score MATTHEWS, N.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team came up short in the South Atlantic Conference Semifinals against the Coker University Cobras by a score of 1-0.
The Trojans entered the semifinal as the number four seed, and the highest remaining seed left in the field as they faced off against the eighth seeded Cobras. These teams squared off last Wednesday (Nov. 3) in Hartsville, S.C. where Anderson spoiled the final home match for Coker with a 2-1 win in overtime.
After a thrilling 1-0 overtime win against Queens in the quarterfinals, the scene for the SAC Semifinals shifted to the Sportsplex in Matthews, N.C. Both teams were getting a feel for the neutral site in the first half, as the first 45 minutes ended in a 0-0 score despite 10 shots for Anderson.
Both defenses held strong as the second half began. Goalkeepers Gal Elyashiv and Jasper Rump each had great performances, combining for eleven saves, five for Elyashiv and six for Rump. In the 82nd minute, the Cobras scored the match-clinching goal as Gabin Guillou was there for the rebound to give Coker the 1-0 win and send the Cobras to the SAC Championship where they will face Mars Hill.
The Trojans will now turn their attention to the upcoming NCAA Regional Championships, which are scheduled for November 18-21 on campus sites. Stay tuned to www.autrojans.com as more information will be provided when available.
