Box Score ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team extended their winning streak to six games in a row on Saturday (Oct. 16) with a 2-1 victory over the Wingate Bulldogs, improving their record at Spero Financial Field this season to 6-1.
The Trojans entered Saturday's match coming off a pair of road wins against Carson-Newman and Newberry. With Coker defeating previously undefeated Limestone earlier this afternoon, tonight's match was an opportunity for both teams to gain some ground in the SAC standings.
It was a scoreless first 45 minutes of play as neither team was able to create any great scoring opportunities, although Anderson outshot Wingate six to three for the first half.
Within the first few minutes of the second half, Harry Ward scored his fourth goal this season to get Anderson on the scoreboard. Ward fired a shot from just inside the box, deflecting off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
In the 51st minute, Eloy Allimadi played a great ball down the field to Ward, who escaped the Wingate defense for his second goal of the match, propelling the Trojans to victory.
"Another great win for the program," said coach Michael Zion. "We had to dig deep and grind it out tonight. Wingate is a very tough opponent but our team held strong and got the job done!"
The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 19) as they travel to take on North Georgia. Game time is set for 7:30 PM, with video and live stats available at www.autrojans.com.
