YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Three second-half goals from No. 21 Young
Harris propelled the Mountain Lions past Anderson University men's
soccer, as the Trojans fell 4-0, Wednesday evening at the YHC
Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
With the setback, AU drops to 3-4-1 for the season and suffers
its second straight loss to YHC in the all-time series. The
Mountain Lions, who jolted four spots in the most recent National
Soccer Coaches of America Association National Poll to No. 21,
claimed their fourth straight victory and move to 7-1 overall.
The Young Harris backline held the Trojans to three shots for
the evening, as newcomers Erik Dahlbeck and Arman Bashiri each
posted a shot on goal. Junior Brad Du Plooy and newcomer Remi
Lesterlou were the only position players for the Black and Gold to
play the full 90 minutes, joining AU goalkeeper Devon Ashy, who
closed the evening with six saves.
Young Harris opened scoring in the 38th minute when Jake Simpson
knocked in a shot from six yards out to give the home side a 1-0
first-half advantage. The goal would be the only tally of the first
half, as the Mountain Lions entered the halftime break with the
one-goal lead.
In the 59th minute, Simpson added his second goal of the evening
when teammate Tom Joslin sent a pass into the Trojan box and
Simpson's shot beat Ashy in the right corner. The goal was
Simpson's second tally of the season.
YHC's Macauley King added the Lions' third goal of the evening
in the 79th minute, while Sam Choi closed the match's scoring in
the 86th minute with his first goal of the season. The four goals
allowed by Anderson is the most since AU locked up with Young
Harris last season when the Mountain Lions claimed a 4-1 victory on
Oct. 1, 2014.
Anderson jumps back into South Atlantic Conference play on
Saturday when it hosts Carson-Newman. Kick-off from Trojan Stadium
is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
