GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - A 25th minute goal from newcomer Erik
Dahlbeck was all Anderson University men's soccer needed, as the
Trojans jumped back into the win column with a 1-0 road victory
over Tusculum on Saturday at Pioneer Field.
With the triumph, the Black and Gold moves to an even 3-3-1
overall record with a 2-2 mark in the SAC play. The Pioneers, who
claimed the 2014 SAC Tournament title a season ago, drop to 4-2-1
on the season with an even 1-1-1 record in the conference. The 1-0
score mirrors the scoreline in each of the previous three matchups
in the all-time series between AU and TC, as Anderson has won the
last three meetings.
After the Trojans recorded four shots through the first 12
minutes of play, the visitors broke through in the 14th minute when
the ball bounced around inside the Tusculum box. Finding the ball
at his feet, defender Ryo Ogawa floated a pass to Dahlbeck who
headed in his third goal of the season, as he took sole possession
of the team lead in goals this season.
The Trojan backline held the Pioneers to just one shot following
the goal and took the one-goal advantage into the halftime break.
For the opening half, Anderson out-shot the home side, 9-5.
In the final 45 minutes, the TC offense fired 11 shots for the
period, but was unable to find an equalizer. Anderson goalkeeper
Devon Ashy grabbed five saves for the half and earned his third
clean sheet of the season, totaling six saves for the evening. The
Trojans added nine more shots for the second half, but could not
find an insurance goal.
Ashy's counterpart, Ashley Elsey, totaled eight saves while
seeing 18 total shots from the Trojans.
Anderson steps away from its SAC schedule on Wednesday when it
hits the road to nationally-ranked Young Harris. Kick-off from the
Peach State is slated for 7:30 p.m.
