lead. AU stayed close, but was unable to overtake the Bulldogs, as
they claimed the three-point win.
The second set featured 12 ties and five lead changes, with
neither team able to gain more than a three-point advantage until
the final moments. The Trojans built a two-point lead on three
occasions, the final time at 12-10 on a Wingate attack error. After
falling behind, 19-17, the Trojans evened the score at 19 apiece on
another Bulldog miscue and a block from Jackson and Irizarry. But
Wingate countered by scoring six unanswered points to claim the
win.
Anderson fell behind 10-3 in the third set and was unable to
recover, as the Bulldogs posted a .300 attack percentage. Wingate
pushed out to a double-digit, 16-6, lead before the Trojans posted
a 10-4 outburst to climb within four on three occasions and
eventually battle back as close as 22-19 on another Bulldog attack
error. But Wingate took the win with three straight
points.
Following a five-day layoff, the Trojans will look to get back
in the win column when they visit Queens University of Charlotte on
Friday. First-serve versus the Royals is slated for 7 p.m.
