FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Anderson volleyball team closed out its first weekend of competition at the Fairmont State Volleyball Classic with a perfect 4-0 record after sweeping Bowie State University (1-2) and East Stroudsburg University (1-2) on Saturday. The Trojans continued their dominant start to the season, hitting over .400 in both matches to start the season undefeated.
The Trojans started the day with a commanding sweep over Bowie State, earning set victories of 25-6, 25-6 and 25-10. Anderson opened the first set on a 7-0 run and never looked back, then scored the first seven points of the second set. After Bowie State took an early 2-0 lead in the third, the Trojans responded with eight straight points to regain control and complete the sweep.
Sophomore Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.), senior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) and senior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) each recorded eight kills to lead Anderson's attack. Juniors Jacey Olsen (Aberdeen, N.C.) and Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) added six kills apiece, with Kindel hitting .750. Hedlund also recorded a team-high five service aces, while sophomore Kaleigh Garren (Anderson, S.C.) added two.
Senior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) paced the offense with 25 assists in two sets, while junior Mia Bennett (Boiling Springs, S.C.) added 11 assists in the third set. Sophomore Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led the Trojans with 11 digs, while Hedlund added nine digs. The Trojans finished with 40 kills on 75 attacks for a .453 hitting percentage and 13 service aces.
Anderson earned a 3-0 sweep over East Stroudsburg (25-15, 25-14, 25-23) to close out the weekend. The Trojans controlled the opening two sets before holding off the Warriors in a competitive third set. Anderson finished with 42 kills on a .424 hitting percentage, while also recording nine total blocks and eight service aces.
Campbell led the Trojans with 13 kills on 16 attacks without an error for a .813 hitting percentage. Reeves added 11 kills, while Kindel recorded eight kills on 14 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. Olsen and Hedlund each contributed five kills.
Nieporte paced the Trojans with 39 assists, while Juhnevicz added three assists. Juhnevicz also led Anderson with 10 digs, with Campbell, Nieporte and Hedlund each recording five digs. Senior Sophie Deese (Hickory, N.C.) and Garren recorded two and three service aces, respectively.
The Trojans continue their preconference schedule at the 2026 Colorado Premier Challenge, an elite NCAA DII Women's Volleyball Tournament hosted by Regis University and Metropolitan State University of Denver. Anderson faces Ferris State University (12:00 p.m. EST) and West Texas A&M University (4:00 p.m. EST) on Friday, Sept. 4, in pool play.
