HARTSVILLE, S.C. - After using an 86th minute goal on Wednesday
to fend over archrival Erskine, Anderson University men's soccer
needed an 83rd minute game-winner from Andre Carle to propel the
Trojans to a 1-0 win over Coker in South Atlantic Conference action
Saturday evening at the Coker Soccer Field.
With the victory, AU has won its last three matches, while
outscoring its opponents 4-0 in the span. The win moves the Trojans
to a perfect 2-0 mark in league play as they avenge a
double-overtime setback to the Cobras a season ago.
After 82 minutes of scoreless action, newcomer Nans Noel found
Carle with a pass and the Normanhurt, Australia native netted his
second goal of the season, as he is now tied with Magnus Larsen for
the team lead with two goals on the year. For Carle, the goal was
his 14th of his collegiate career.
Anderson was on its attacking end for the majority of the night,
as the Trojans claimed the shot category, 14-8. Six of AU's 14
shots troubled Coker (0-4-2, 0-2 SAC) goalkeeper Kyndle Cobb, as
Cobb closed the match with two saves. Carle led the Trojan offense
with three shots on goal, while senior midfielder Martin Brain
totaled two shots on goal and three shots for the match.
Following the attacking duo was Larsen with two shots, while
Noel, Mark Allen and William Treichler each totaled a shot
apiece.
Defensively, Anderson goalkeeper Bo Haug finished the match with
four saves, as he recorded his third straight clean sheet.
Currently, the three shutouts ties Lincoln Memorial's Marcel
Barwanietz for the conference lead.
Anderson returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it hosts Queens
in a SAC showdown. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for
4:30 p.m.
