HARROGATE, Tenn. - Despite a 54th minute goal from Andre Carle, Anderson University men's soccer were unable to complete the comeback as the Trojans fell on the road to Lincoln Memorial, 2-1, in a South Atlantic Conference clash Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.

With the setback, AU falls to 6-7 on the season and moves to an even 4-4 mark in league play. On the opposite side, the Railsplitters improve to 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the conference. Anderson suffers its first road setback in conference matches this season.

Lincoln Memorial opened scoring in the eighth minute when Yinka Lawal fired a long-range shot from 25 yards away past AU goalkeeper Bo Haug after receiving a pass from teammate Yuri Passos. The tally was Lawal's first goal of the season and the first half's only goal.

After the Trojans were out-shot 7-2 in the opening 45 minutes, the Anderson attack regrouped and totaled six shots in the final stanza. Despite the shot tally, the home side increased their lead in the 47th minute when Lucas Coro scored his first goal of the season when a deflection from a Haug save bounced to his feet and he took advantage of open net and scored.

Following the goal, AU found the scoreboard for the first time on the afternoon when Carle was on the end of a Magnus Larsen pass and knocked in his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute. With Larsen's assist, the freshman has tallied 10 points on the year.

AU continues its attack for the remainder of the contest, but could not find an equalizer. Two late shots from Larsen in the final five minutes were both saved, including a team save in the final 35 seconds of play.

Making the save on Larsen's first shot in the final minute, LMU goalkeeper Marcel Barwanietz made four stops in the clean sheet. On the other side, Haug closed the match with three saves, including two in the opening half.

Offensively, LMU totaled 14 shots with seven coming in each half. Lawal led the way with three shots as all trouble Haug. Passos, Coro and Harry Solomons all followed with two shots apiece. For Anderson, Larsen tallied four shots with three coming on goal, while Carle, Bernd Muxel, Oliver Wright and Brad Du Plooy each fired a shot for the day.

Anderson looks to bounce back on Wednesday when it welcomes Brevard to the Upstate for a SAC showdown. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
