ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's basketball team forced a
season-high 27 turnovers, as the Trojans wrapped up their brief
two-match homestand by outpacing Georgia College, 73-52, in
nonconference action Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic
Center.
Anderson (6-3), which was coming off a six-day layoff, claimed
its fourth consecutive victory and defeated Georgia College for the
second time in seven attempts. The Bobcats, who were coming off a
17-day layoff of their own, fell to 2-3 on the season after
dropping their second decision in the last three outings.
The Trojans converted the Georgia College miscues into 21
points, as senior guard Alissa Diaz tossed in a season-high 21
points on 9-of-12 shooting. Senior Tilde Ahlin added a season-high
15 points in just 19 minutes of action, while sophomore guard
Lesley Woods netted a career-best 15 points. Sophomore Sierra
Simpson dished out a game-high six assists and shared team-high
rebounding honors with Ahlin, as both pulled down three boards.
Junior forward Krysta Lewis led the Bobcats with 16 points off
the bench, while first-team All-Peach Belt Conference selection
Shonteona Keys added 11.
The Anderson defense forced five Bobcat turnovers in the first four
minutes of play and held Georgia College scoreless until the 16:31
mark, while the Trojans scored the first seven points of the
contest. Ahlin dropped in four of her season-high effort during the
breakout, but the Trojans were unable to completely capitalize,
misfiring on their first four three-point attempts of the
contest.
AU equaled the seven-point advantage on two more occasions over
the next four minutes, before Lewis sandwiched a pair of 3-pointers
around a trey from Ahlin to trim the Anderson lead to just 19-17
midway through the opening half.
But it was as close as Georgia College would get, as Ahlin and
freshman Madison Floyd answered for the Trojans, draining
back-to-back 3s to push the lead back to 25-17 with 7:38 left.
Sophomores Jaclyn Moore and Woods closed out the opening half with
a short jumper and a 3-pointer, respectively to give the Trojans a
39-26 halftime cushion.
Anderson opened the second half with a 13-0 run to double up the
Bobcats, 52-26, and put the game out of reach with just more than
15 minutes on the clock.
The Trojans close out their nonconference schedule with a pair
of road contests at Winston-Salem State on Wednesday, then visit
USC Aiken on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
