ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson men's soccer team wrapped up the
regular season with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Lenoir-Rhyne in South
Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Trojan
Stadium.
With the win, Anderson (4-10-3, 4-4-1 SAC) claimed at least the
sixth seed in next week's conference tournament and could possibly
earn the fifth seed.
Lenoir-Rhyne , which slipped to 6-6-4 overall and 3-4-2 in the
league, has also earned a berth in the SAC Tournament, which begins
on Tuesday. The pairings will be announced by the league office
this weekend.
Sophomore defender Lars Zimmerman helped ensure that the Trojans
enjoyed a successful senior day and Homecoming celebration by
scoring in each half. The native of Malente, Germany, gave AU a
quick 1-0 lead in the fifth minute with a goal from the right side
of the box that found the upper corner of the net. Sophomore Tapiwa
Munetsi tallied his second assist of the season.
Zimmerman headed in his team-leading seventh goal of the season
at the 67:23 mark off a corner kick from teammate Zak Moss, as his
attempt nestled in upper corner of the net.
The Bears held an 11-6 shot advantage, while AU claimed a 4-1
edge in corner kicks.
Anderson goalkeeper Lukas Hesse earned his fourth shutout
victory of the season and his 15th career clean sheet, stopping
five Lenoir-Rhyne shots on the afternoon.
Junior net-minder Stefan Dill absorbed the loss in goal,
recording three saves for the Bears.
