MORROW, Ga. - The 14th ranked Anderson men's soccer team opened
the season by battling North Georgia to a scoreless draw in the
opening match of the Clayton State Laker Shootout Friday night at
Laker Field.
The season-opener for both teams featured strong defense and
missed opportunities on both ends of the pitch, with each
goalkeeper collecting nine saves on the night.
The Trojans threatened quickly as junior James Moseley, a
preseason all-conference selection got off a header inside the
three-minute mark that missed the net, while the Saints' Gray
Phelps missed with his attempt less than 20 seconds later.
Anderson went on to post 26 shots to North Georgia's 21, and
recorded a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
AU forward Lasse Sohrweide had a game-high seven shots, while
Clement Samson and Ryan Messick each notched four attempts.
Anderson will look to get its first win of the young season when
the Trojans face host Clayton State Saturday evening in the final
contest of the two-day tournament. The Lakers downed Belmont Abbey
3-1 in Friday night's nightcap. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30
p.m.
