FLORENCE, S.C. - Senior midfielder Adrien Moufflet was involved
in all three goals to help lead Anderson past Francis Marion, 3-1,
in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the FMU Soccer
Field.
Playing their third road contest of the early season, the
Trojans got on the scoreboard early, with Moufflet providing a
corner kick in the seventh minute that found its way to junior
James Moseley, who headed the ball past FMU keeper Clark Richeson
for his first score of the season.
Moseley and Moufflet, both preseason All-SAC selections lived up
to the billing on Saturday, as Anderson (2-1-1) earned its second
straight win, while handing Francis Marion (0-4) its fourth
consecutive loss to start the season
The two teams headed to the locker room at the half with AU
still holding the 1-0 advantage, but the Trojans struck quickly
coming out of the break behind junior Mark Smith's first goal of
the season less than five minutes into the final stanza.
Moufflet again provided the spark with a corner kick and junior
Lasse Sohrweide flicked the ball to Smith, whose game-winning shot
found the back of the net.
The final AU goal of the afternoon was off Moufflet's foot, as
Messick found him in the box at the 55:47 mark to give the Trojans
a three-goal cushion.
The Patriots' Ivan Juric set the final margin by scoring on a
penalty kick in the 88th minute following a foul whistled on
AU.
Anderson outshot the Patriots, 19-5, on the afternoon, while the
Trojan defense allowed just three shots on goal. Sohrweide posted
four shots on goal with Messick recording two.
Lukas Hesse collected two saves on the afternoon en route to
earning his second win of the season, while Richeson absorbed the
loss.
Anderson opens a two-game homestand looking for its third
straight victory by playing host to Lynn University on Monday, with
kick-off scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
