ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson held Pfeiffer to just 22 second-half
points as the Trojans defeated the Lady Falcons 79-57 in the
Conference Carolinas regular-season finale of the 2009-2010 women's
basketball season on Saturday night at the Abney Athletic Center.
With the win, Anderson finished 17-10 overall and 16-6 in league
play, securing the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament.
Pfeiffer dropped to 13-14, 13-9 and has the seventh-seed having to
travel back to Anderson for the first-round tournament matchup on
Monday at 7 p.m. Anderson held a 40-35 lead at halftime after
shooting 63% from the field in the first half. Senior Shanice
Wilson's basket three and a half minutes into the contest gave the
Trojans an early 8-2 lead. Pfeiffer's Christina Harvey and Devona
Knight each brought the Lady Falcons to within two five minutes
later, until Anderson went on 10-1 run pushing the lead to 11 at
24-13 with an Amanda Parris 3-pointer. Pfeiffer then bolted out on
an 11-2 run to find themselves again within a pair on a Brittany
Cox triple at the 6:30 mark. Knight then drained a jumper with 4:54
to play before the half, tying the contest at 29-29. Another late
8-0 scoring streak by the Trojans capped by an Ashley Abed field
goal separated Anderson from Pfeiffer at intermission. Anderson's
defense took over in the second half holding the Lady Falcons to
just 29% shooting from the floor. Alexa Neal put the Trojan lead
back into double digits with a bucket at 16:14 while Parris
recorded a steal and layup just minutes later that gave the hosts
their largest lead of the night at 16. Pfeiffer cut the lead to 10
on a Domonique China field goal just before the halfway point of
the period, before Anderson's Abed finished an 11-2 run with a
jumper to put the contest easily in the hands of the home team by
19. China led all scorers with 21 points on the night as the only
Lady Falcon to finish in double-digit scoring. Abed paced the
Trojans with 14 points, followed closely by Neal's 13 and Korie
Sellers' dozen. Anderson shot 61% on the night while Pfeiffer shot
