CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman center Maci Siniard dropped in a
basket with just over a minute to play, giving Anderson a
four-point lead and Ashley Abed and Alexa Neal combined for 44
points as Anderson held off Queens, 65-63, in Conference Carolinas
women's basketball action Monday night at the Ovens Athletic
Center. Anderson (14-9, 13-5 Conference Carolinas) extended its win
streak to four games and swept the season series with the Lady
Royals. Queens (12-11, 11-7 Conference Carolinas) had its two game
win streak snapped and fell to 12-11 overall and 11-7 in league
play. The last time these two teams met, the Trojans claimed narrow
67-65 win when freshman forward Breonda Shannon dropped in a
buzzer-beating shot from the left side, but this time it was
Siniard who provided the winning margin. The matchup was
back-and-forth the entire 40 minutes, with the contest featuring 11
lead changes and seven ties. Anderson claimed the largest lead of
the game, at 17-8,less than seven minutes into the contest.
Anderson led by one at the half, 28-27, but the Lady Royals started
the second with a 16-8 run to create a five-point cushion more than
five minutes in. Anderson regained the lead for good with 6:22
remaining on a basket by Abed, but Queens climbed back within two
with just over a minute to play. The Royals had a chance to tie it
up with 30 second to play, but a missed putback attempt by Cecilia
Tchangoue and a missed field goal in the final seconds by Marissa
Hudley left Queens trailing. Anderson's Neal led the Trojans with
23 point game and seven rebounds, while Ashley Abed was just off
Neal's pace with 21 points and seven boards. Hudley's 23 points and
10 rebounds led the Lady Royals. The double-double was her ninth of
the season and ties her best scoring performance. Anderson plays
its final road game of the 2009-10 campaign on Saturday when the
Trojans visit Barton for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at Wilson Gym. Box
