ANDERSON, S.C. - The visiting Georgia College & State University Bobcats shot nearly 55 percent from the field in the second half to down Anderson, 72-52, in the season-opener for both teams in women's basketball action Friday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

In the Trojans first home opener since the 1999-2000 campaign, the Trojans took a 10-5 lead five minutes into the contest, but GCSU pulled even less than two minutes later. A pair of AU 3-pointers sandwiched around two free throws by the Bobcats' Abby Slocumb boosted the Anderson lead back to 16-12, before GCSU edged back within 16-14 on a jumper.

The first half featured five ties, the last coming at 18-18 with 7:19 remaining. GCSU's Krysta Lewis dropped in a layup to give the visitors a two-point edge, but AU responded with four unanswered points to take a 22-20 lead with less than five minutes on the clock.

Georgia College scored the final five points of the half, part of a 16-4 run that stretched into the second frame, giving the Bobcats a 38-26 advantage with 14:59 left in the game.

The Trojans pulled within 42-34 on an Emily Willoughby trey with just under 13 minutes on the clock, but AU would not get any closer as GCSU built a 23-point lead in the closing minutes.

GCSU's All-Peach Belt Conference selection Chimere Jordan scored a game-high 35 points, including 29 in the second half, while three other Bobcats added eight points apiece.

Senior Ashley Abed led the Trojans' offensive effort with 10 points, with Alissa Diaz and sophomore Breonda Shannon chipping in seven points apiece. Alexa Neal shared game-high honors with eight rebounds, all on the defensive end.

Anderson returns to action on Monday when the Trojans play host to Winston-Salem State. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Abney Center.
