GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Using a three-goal outburst early in the
first half, Anderson extended its win streak to five matches with a
5-0 road win past Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference men's
soccer play Saturday evening at the Niswonger Sports
Complex/Pioneer Field.
The win streak is the longest for Anderson (9-4-1, 4-2 SAC)
since opening last season with six consecutive victories. The
Trojan defense has also played well during the run, with three of
the last four wins going in the books as shutouts. AU had six
different players record at least one point to come away with the
win.
Tusculum (2-8-3, 1-5 SAC) dropped its fourth straight and is
still searching for its first home win of the season.
Ryan Messick put Anderson on the board at 13:44 as a long cross
by Zach Denson was headed back in front by Sohrweide to Messick,
who headed home his fourth goal of the season. At 15:18, James
Moseley gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead as a corner kick by Denson was
headed to the goal by Sohrweide, and Moseley tapped home his fifth
goal of the season at the far post.
At 17:46, Sohrweide tallied his eighth goal of the season as he
took a pass from Jones on the break and rifled home a shot to the
far post, giving Anderson a 3-0 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Jones scored his third goal of the year at
58:46 as a square pass from Adrien Moufflet was flicked beautifully
by Sohrweide to Jones on a run, and he found the net to make the
score 4-0. Jones closed out the scoring at 70:33 on a blast from 20
yards out.
AU outshot Tusculum, 21-8, with the Trojans holding a 5-2
advantage in corner kicks.
Net-minders Lukas Hesse and Benjamin Pepion split time between the
pipes for the Trojans, with each collecting one save.
Anderson closes out its brief two-match conference road swing
with a visit to Newberry on Wednesday. Kick-off versus the Wolves
at the Newberry Soccer Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
