MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Freshman Maci Siniard scored 15 points and
Alexa Neal dished out a game-high eight rebounds as Anderson
defeated Mount Olive, 67-53, in Conference Carolinas women's
basketball action Saturday afternoon at Kornegay Arena. Anderson
(6-4, 5-0 Conference Carolinas) opened a brief two-game conference
road swing by extending its win streak to three games and stayed
unbeaten in league play, while Mount Olive fell to 4-5 overall and
dropped its second straight contest and 3-2 in the conference.
After building a five-point advantage at the half, the AU defense
held Mount Olive scoreless for nearly five minutes en route to
building a 44-30 lead. But Mount Olive responded with a 13-2 run to
pull within 46-43 midway through the final frame. But that was as
close as Mount Olive would get, as Anderson scored the next seven
points to build the lead back to double digits. MOC's Andrea Jones
cut the Trojans' lead back to six with a layup, but Ashley Abed
answered with a 3-pointer for Anderson and the lead grew to 59-49
with 4:36 remaining. Mount Olive's Helen Moore score four straight
points to pull Mount Olive within six, but AU's Shanice Wilson
responded yet again and the Trojan's defense stepped up, holding
MOC scoreless over the final 2:44. Siniard led the way with her 15
points, while Ashley Abed added 12 points and collected a team-high
seven rebounds. Wilson netted 10 points and guard Alexa Neal
recorded a game-high eight assists. Anderson wraps up its road
swing by visiting Limestone on Wednesday, with tip-off scheduled
for 5:30 p.m. at Timken Gym. Box
