Trojans and Rival Erskine Battle to a Draw

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Anderson and nearby rival Erskine battled to a 2-2 draw in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action Wednesday night at Huggins Field. Early in the first frame, sophomore Mark Smith dribbled down the left side and drew a foul in the box, allowing teammate Lasse Sohrweide to bang home his third penalty kick of the season to give AU the early 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Ben Jones found Sorhrweide, whose left-footed volley found the back of the net, giving the Trojans a 2-0 advantage. But Erskine answered with a score of its own on a cross to the box and the teams went to intermission with AU holding a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for AU, the Flying Fleet scored in the second half off a corner kick and the two squads battled scoreless through the remainder of the two-overtime contest. The Trojans remain undefeated on the season, moving to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference, while the Flying Fleet is 1-5-2 and 0-2-1 in Conference Carolinas' play. Anderson is now 5-0-3 versus their closest rival over the past eight seasons with the last loss coming during the 2001 campaign. Anderson wraps up the brief conference road swing with a match at Pfeiffer on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m. at N.E. Lefko Field.
