ANDERSON, S.C. -- The junior tandem of Jamie Lancaster and Adria
Mullaney posted double-digit kills and teammate Lindsay Doggett
handed out an impressive 35 assists, but it wasnt quite enough as
Limestone outlasted Anderson, 3-0 (29-27, 25-19, 25-13) in
Conference Carolinas volleyball Tuesday night at the Abney Athletic
Center. The Trojans, who were defending their home court for the
first time in more than two weeks after enduring a seven-match road
swing, grabbed an early 6-1 lead, forcing Limestone head coach Tim
Loesch to call timeout. Anderson (6-5, 1-1 Conference Carolinas)
built its' lead to five at 8-3 on an emphatic kill by Mullaney, but
the Lady Saints crawled back into the set with an 8-4 run of its
own, before freshman Paulette Rivers took over for the Trojans'
offense, scoring two of AU's next three points. Limestone (6-6, 2-0
Conference Carolinas) pulled even at 18-18, for the first of five
tie scores over the next several minutes as the two teams battled
on even terms. Neither squad was able to build more than a
two-point advantage, as the Lady Saints garnered the narrow, 29-27,
victory in the opening frame. With the score knotted at 6-6 in the
second set, LC scored six of the next seven points en route to
building a six-point cushion, but the Trojans refused to go away
and climbed within one point midway through the set, but was unable
to get any closer as the Lady Saints held on for a 25-19 win. AU
committed some unforced errors in the third set, allowing Limestone
to gain the early lead and capture the match. "We need to show up
and be ready to play with more heart," Anderson head coach Craig
Mosqueta said. "Losing Adria was a big factor but we need people to
step up." Rivers recorded a stellar .429 hitting percentage on the
night, while Lancaster knocked down a team-high 12 kills and
Mullaney notched 11 kills despite suffering an injury in the second
set. Doggett posted a match-high 35 assists. Anderson returns to
action with a two-match conference road swing, beginning at
conference preseason favorite Pfeiffer on Friday with first-serve
scheduled for 7 p.m. The trip concludes with the Trojans visiting
Queens on Saturday at 2 p.m.
