ANDERSON, S.C. -- Paced by a combined 68 kills from freshman
Paulette Rivers and junior Jamie Lancaster, the Anderson volleyball
team wrapped up its regular season by sweeping conference-foe
Belmont Abbey and Peach Belt opponent Augusta State Saturday
afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center. Anderson said goodbye to
its lone senior, Jennifer Moffitt, by knocking off Belmont Abbey,
3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19) and downing Augusta State by an
identical, 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 26-24) margin. With the win
past Belmont Abbey, the Trojans clinched the fourth seed and home
court advantage for the first round of the conference tournament
that begins on Tuesday. Anderson improved to 21-12 overall and 12-6
in the league, while Belmont Abbey slipped to 6-19 overall and 6-12
in the conference. The Trojans avenged an earlier 3-1 loss to
Augusta State, which fell to 22-11. "We did not play very well in
the first match," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "We
picked it up in the second match and played well. It was good to
bounce back and pick up the second win. If we play like that we'll
be successful in the tournament." Lancaster posted double-doubles
in both matches, with match highs in each, while Rivers added
double-figure kills in both matches with an eye-popping .571 attack
percentage in the Belmont Abbey game. She also knocked down a total
of five blocks on the afternoon. In her final regular-season
action, Moffitt handed out 41 assists and teammate Lindsay added 46
assists of her own. Junior Adria Mullaney recorded 10 kills and 16
digs in the four-setter versus Augusta State. With the win,
Anderson notched a tie for fourth-place with Mount Olive, a 3-1
winner over Converse on Saturday. By virtue of the Trojans 3-0 win
in early October over Mount Olive, the Trojans earned the No. four
seed. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Abney Center. Belmont
